Jed Cahill is first in line and fair enough, he created In The Bin back in 1999, and has toured it nearly its entire time throughout Australia, and continuing the tour this year. Jed discovered film making at an early age and pursued it through short film making and constantly participating in workshops and education programs to gain a stronger understanding of film making.
In The Bin was created by him as an opportunity to present the short film community to regions who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience such an event. A film maker himself he understood the importance of rewarding all films screened at the festivals which resulted in In The Bin providing screening fee’s to film makers while the film was on tour. Coming from a background of participating in workshops and attending other festivals it was important for Jed to ensure the festival and workshops were financial accessible for all communities and participants. Developing a system where he could keep costs to a minimum for councils and community organizations yet offer them the highest standard of films and education.
This will be his 5th year on the road with In The Bin Touring Festival and although some people might find over 8 months on the road a daunting task, so does Jed. But honestly the appreciation, hospitality and support the communities show Jed while he is out and about makes it all worth while for him.
Dana Dowker was actually Dana Cahill in a past life when she was free and fabulous, now married with a balancing act of four kids aged 10 to 4 Dana is now Dana Dowker and family and fabulous!!! Dana started working with In The Bin as a way of helping her little brother Jed out. Now, if you have anything to do with In The Bin chances are you will be dealing with Dana on a day to day basis. Originally studying psychology Dana agrees you have to be a psychologist to be able to work with Jed, however Dana loves the career change as it gives her more time to spend with her family, even if that includes her painful brother.
Rachael Hutson, in keeping it in the family Rachael is no way related to the Cahill’s however at an early age she was babysat by Dana, now in a reversal of roles she baby-sits Dana and Jed. Rachael holds the mighty roll of administration and everything in-between as Jed would call it. Rachael loves the fact that In The Bin is a touring festival meaning she only has to work beside Jed for 4 months of the year.
