Two-Day Education Program
The soul of the festival: teaching and inspiring budding film makers in regional and rural communities that there are no boundaries to what you can achieve through film. In The Bin’s signature educational component has now been compressed into a two-day workshop available for schools, and community groups. Students are placed into four teams to create, produce and edit their own short films, which are then screened at one of the selected nights of the festival. ITB provides all the equipment needed and our dedicated instructors are always there to help when needed however students are encouraged to make their own creative decisions for their films. The workshop covers all areas of film making including story development, shooting, producing and editing, with a final product they can be proud of. This workshop can be developed and adjusted to suit the needs of the community. In the past students have created their own short film stories, they have also created documentaries on the community, and marketing videos for the community. We are open to any ideas and encourage community engagement at the highest level. We can also adjust this workshop to work with primary school students.
Super Shorts Workshop
Short films are as fun to make as they are to watch. This workshop is a practical session open to anyone with an interest in film to learn the foundations of good film making practices, from story development and production to editing. This workshop can be adjusted for any needs or requirements. It is designed to create a fun flexible environment for learning
Express Film Production
This is a fun one day film workshop with a youth group or community group, any age really. In this workshop a fun narrative based short film is create and shot with students using camera equipment and education we provide. Once the film is shot we take it away and edit it delivering it back to the community once complete. We can run this workshop with a story theme requested by the council or as a production with the students free to choose their story.
This is a project based production, we can evolve this production to suit the specific needs of the community. We can control the full production for your community or we can educate students to assist in the production. The Barcaldine film is an interesting one as we interviewed 15 people following their lives in the town, most were above the age of 70 and had lived in Barcaldine all their lives. Out of the 15 people we interviewed 15 years latter only three are still alive. The Library has an archive of the interviews running for around 1hr each person.
The scope can be as big or small as the community wishes and as a result budgets for this project are on a negotiated level, I would love to explore possibilities with your community.
This workshop is held at a local primary school and is a big hit with the little learners. Students will be filmed in groups creating a story with drawings or pictures on the community in front of our Blue and Green key screens. Students will then see their stories come to life through Chroma Key cutting-edge digital effects. The footage will be developed into 30 second films to be screened at one of the festival nights.
This is a specialist workshop which runs over a 2hr class time and 4hr location time (best run as one afternoon into night), either day or night on location. Participants bring their own cameras and learn how to shoot and edit time-lapse. We spend time shooting time-lapse during the class and the footage is then taken away and edited to a sequence. The workshop covers manual camera settings for photography, cheap and basic to complex time-lapse rigs, and post production processes. This workshop can be expanded to a three day program where the students also handle the post production of putting the time-lapse together.
